Sony Admits PS Vita Sales are on the Low End of Expectations

Following Sony’s CES press conference this week, Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai admitted that PlayStation Vita sales are currently at the bottom end of the company’s expectations. The latest sales figures for the PS Vita haven’t been released yet, but the last official figure from June 2012 stands at 2.2 million units.

“I would say it’s on the low end of what we expected,” he explained after the CES press conference, adding that “Long term is what’s important.”

The PS Vita sales were boosted over the festive season, so it will be interesting to see where the sales figure now stands. The console itself has been available in Japan for just over a year now, and approaching it’s first anniversary in North America and Europe.
