E3 2011: NGP Confirmed to be Called PlayStation Vita

June 7th, 2011 / Niraj Shah / News

The rumor from last week has been confirmed – the NGP will be called the PlayStation Vita. Kaz Hirai announced the new name at Sony’s E3 2011 Press Conference in Los Angeles earlier today. The PlayStation Vita will include dual analogue sticks, two cameras and dual touch-screens.

In addition, the device will include Wifi and 3G connectivity. In North America, Sony will be partnering with AT&T as the exclusive provider for 3G Internet on the device.

On top of that, Sony revealed that the new platform will have cross-game voice chat from launch (yup, still no news for the PS3). They also disclosed that the “Near” location application will support local ad-hoc multiplayer and social networking.
